Why I Use Skribit: An Introspective

by Paul on 15 February 2010

Cure Writer's Block!I’m not deluded. I am fully aware of the fact that the number of people who read the beginnings of this blog is roughly equal to the number of passengers that can comfortably ride in a VW Beetle. But I can’t help but remember what my mother always told me: “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” This pearl of advice seems perfectly applicable to this particular endeavor. I will do my best to treat my little piece of the web as though it were a smashingly popular blog read by thousands. In keeping with this, I wanted to have a way for my readers to make suggestions about what they would like me to write about – particularly as it relates to my experiences in the Army. It gets better. Skribit takes it a step further than just receiving suggestions through e-mail or comments. In fact, Skribit allows users to vote on suggestions (pushing them up the list) and follow them so they are notified when a suggestion they followed has been written about. This creates an even more interactive solution letting my readers stay plugged in to what’s going on around parisim.net.

A little background: Skribit is an Atlanta, Georgia based startup and the brain-child of Georgia Tech alumnus Paul Stamatiou. The company went fully live in mid-December and has been gaining traction ever since. This, in truth, is another reason I’m using Skribit – I’ve been reading Paul’s (Stammy, not me) blog since he was a wee freshman in the dorms at GATech. He writes great (read: long) reviews of tech gear and every now and then will throw in a post about startup life. His passion for startups is awe-inspiring and I’m more than happy to throw a nod to Skribit on my own, meager as it is, blog. To the Skribit team: Keep up the good work.

A little homework: Do you have a blog? Are you using some sort of suggestion-engine? Have you given Skribit a look? If you haven’t you really should.
